WS Performance Results
We learned the hard (and expensive) way that it is a slow, frustrating process to clean seed with a conventional grain cleaner using screens. In 2015, we spent more than $16,000 to purchase a well known brand of grain cleaner that featured four large 42” X 36” screens along with a top aspirator that removed preliminary trash before the seed fell onto the screens. A large fan provided a separation of the light material from the good grain. It also featured a ball and rack system plus a knocker system to help keep the screens clean longer. All these features offered very little benefit because the screens had to be cleaned frequently anyway. Even after just a few minutes, the cleaning action was lost. The cracks, the fines, the thins and other foreign material still plugged the holes in the bottom screens quickly. “Cleaned” wheat from this screen machine is shown in the picture below marked with a “1”.
If you examine the picture closely you can see cracked, thin and diseased seeds along with some chaff still in the grain. For farmers who grow the type of seed that requires cleaning, this is a big problem. It takes time to clean screens by hand. If screens get clogged it can be a continuous arduous task but is necessary so grain cleaning consistency is maintained.
One ton of this “cleaned” wheat was put through a WS grain cleaner. A hard separation was done. A 100 lb used feed bag was attached to the exhaust to collect the winnowings. The bag was full when the job was finished and can be seen in the picture.
The winnowings were dumped on a pile (2a). A close-up of the winnowings pile is shown in the picture marked with a “2b”.
There were very few if any cracks, thin, or light diseased seeds to be found in the cleaned grain after this process. The re-cleaned seed is shown in the picture marked with an “S”.

As with all grain cleaners using just air to obtain separations, a scalper may be needed to finish removing the densest (largest, heaviest) trash pieces.
Grain Sample
If you send us a sample of your grain, we will run it through a grain cleaning machine and return the results to you. This service is free if you follow these directions:
1. Send us about a 2-3 gallon sample.
2. Put it into a garbage bag and then into a box.
3. Include a note and tell us how you want it separated. Provide your address and phone number so we know who to talk to if we have questions.
4. Include a prepaid return shipping label (that means you pay postage both ways). If you cannot include a prepaid label, include a check equal to the amount of the postage you paid to send it to us.

Beat The Rush
If you want a grain cleaner, don’t wait to make a purchase until you need it. Purchase yours before the rush so you have time to set it up and learn to operate it before you actually need it.
Scalper
Grain crops often have large and heavy (high density) foreign material in it that needs to be separated from the good seed. The WS Grain Cleaners use only air to accomplish the separation between the good and the bad. The density of the very largest and heaviest pieces of foreign material may be too high and can resist the separating process. A scalper is an accessary that becomes necessary to use in conjunction with a WS grain cleaner and will finish the grain cleaning job to perfection.
One custom operator who uses a scalper with his WS Grain Cleaner calls it the perfect grain cleaning system and uses this combination to compete with other custom grain cleaning operators that use million dollar machines.
The machine is made of all stainless steel, is 220V, and comes with one screen good for wheat, rye, and triticale. Other size screens are readily available.
